How can I change the name of the Program Manager in Windows?

You can personalize Program Manager in Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroup 3.11 by naming it My Computer or putting your name or other message in the title bar.

  1. Select the Program Manager StartUp windows, and from the File menu, choose New.
  2. In the New dialog box, select the Program Item option button and click OK.
  3. In the Program Item Properties dialog box, click the Browse button.
  4. In the Browse dialog box, select the PROGMAN.EXE file (located in the C:\\WINDOWS subdirectory) and click OK.
  5. In the Description command line, type your new name for Program Manager. For example, type My Computer.
  6. Click Change Icon, and under Current Icon, scroll through the options and select the icon you want to represent My Computer.

A new icon called My Computer will appear in the Program Manager StartUp window, and the next time you start up Windows, the words My Computer will appear in the Program Manager title bar.
